The Role: How you'll make an impact at Whales Corp?

We’re looking for a Fintech Data Engineer & BI Analyst - a partner to our product, finance, and engineering teams who will design and optimize data systems, build reliable data pipelines, and create automation and BI tools that empower the whole company.
This role is hands-on and multidisciplinary: from PostgreSQL on AWS to Excel macros, from API integrations to structuring Notion knowledge bases. You’ll be the backbone of how Whales manages and understands data.

Role Responsibilities: What you'll do

Design, develop, and maintain databases on AWS with a focus on scalability, security, and performance.
Support existing data infrastructure: PostgreSQL, Metabase, Google Sheets, Notion.
Build and optimize data pipelines (ETL) using Python and SQL.
Automate data extraction, transformation, and reporting (APIs, Excel automations, Python scripts).
Manage Excel-based automations (advanced formulas, pivot tables, macros, visualizations).
Maintain and structure Notion as the company’s knowledge hub.
Build and manage BI dashboards and reports in Metabase (or similar tools).
Ensure data availability and consistency across multiple sources (Postgres, Sheets, Notion).
Manage backups, recovery, and version control for critical data systems.
Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver data-driven insights.
Implement data access controls, monitoring, and compliance standards in close collaboration with the CISO.

Role Requirements: What you need to succeed

Proven experience in data engineering and database optimization (PostgreSQL on AWS).
Strong Python and SQL skills for data pipelines and API integrations.
Hands-on experience with BI tools (Metabase, Power BI, or similar).
Advanced Excel (automation, macros, pivot tables, data visualization).
Familiarity with Notion or other knowledge management systems.
Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.
English and Russian proficiency (B2-C1).

Nice to have:

Background in fintech, blockchain, or crypto projects.
Experience with workflow/orchestration tools (Temporal, Apache Airflow).
Knowledge of modern data security standards.
Experience in distributed/remote-first teams.
Ability to think like an internal consultant: proactively see bottlenecks in data flows and propose solutions.
